Our latest research conducted with the use of an optical microscope showed that in the presence of a sonic emitter, almost all female varroosis falling on the bottom are damaged by bees. Most often, bees cut off the legs and parts of the torso or remove all ventral part. Additionally, damaged dorsal and ventral plates of varroosis are observed (photos below).
Apparently – in the presence of ultrasounds, bees show varroosis hygiene.
Cut off and damaged legs of the female varroa and bitten off part of the dorsal plate on the left side
Bitten off part of the dorsal plate of varroa mite female (on the right and bottom)
